"How much does a photographer cost?" is one of the most common questions I get, and one of the hardest to answer with a single number — because it genuinely depends on a handful of specific factors. Here's a straightforward breakdown of what drives pricing, so you can budget realistically before you ever reach out.
The Factors That Actually Move the Price
- Session length. A 30-minute headshot session and a 4-hour on-location lifestyle session are different jobs with different pricing, even before a single photo is edited.
- Number of edited images delivered. Shooting is only half the work. Every delivered image gets individually color-corrected and retouched, and that editing time is baked into the price.
- Location and travel. In-studio and near-home sessions cost less to deliver than sessions that involve scouting a new location or traveling outside the metro area.
- Wardrobe changes and complexity. More outfit changes and more setups mean more shooting time and more images to sort through and edit.
Realistic Ranges, By Category
Here's what that looks like in practice for the kinds of sessions booked most often in the Phoenix area:
- Headshots: typically the most affordable category — a focused 30-minute session built for a clean, professional result for LinkedIn, a website, or a real estate listing.
- Portraits: a mid-range, hour-long session, usually delivering more images since there's more variety to choose from across a single location.
- Lifestyle: longer sessions (60–90 minutes), often on location, built around real moments rather than posed shots — pricing reflects the extra planning and shooting time.
- Creative / editorial and artistic / sensual work: the most involved category, often including a scouting visit, multiple outfit changes, and a longer session — priced accordingly.
What's Usually Included (and What Isn't)
A good quote should tell you exactly how many edited digital images are included, whether you get a private online gallery, and whether you have print rights to the images you receive. Extras — additional edited images beyond what's included, rush editing, or extra locations — are usually priced separately as add-ons, which is worth asking about up front so there are no surprises later.
Our Own Pricing, in the Open
Rather than make you ask, the full breakdown — starting prices for every category, what's included, and add-on pricing — is posted openly on the pricing page. It's the same information I'd walk you through on a call, just easier to reference while you're planning.
