Most of the questions aren't really about the photography itself. They're usually more along the lines of: “What actually happens?” or “Will I feel comfortable?” Those are good questions, and I think they're worth answering and explaining.
It Starts With a Conversation, Not a Camera
Every session starts with a conversation well before the shoot — by phone and email when helpful — about what you're comfortable with, what you're not, and what you're hoping to create. We talk through boundaries, ideas, and expectations ahead of time, so nothing about the session should be a surprise.
Privacy Is Built Into the Process
Sessions are typically photographed at home or another private location. When needed, I'll scout the location ahead of time so lighting, setups, and privacy can be worked out before the day of the shoot. Your images are delivered through a private, password-protected gallery and are never posted or shared without your explicit permission.
What a Session Actually Looks Like
- A scouting visit when needed, so the location, lighting, and setups are already familiar.
- 2–3 hours of shooting, giving us time to work at a comfortable pace without feeling rushed.
- Breaks, direction, and check-ins throughout. There's no pressure to keep shooting or do anything you're not comfortable with.
- Up to two outfit changes, depending on the direction of the session and what you want to create.
Direction, When You Need It
I'll give you direction when needed, while leaving plenty of room for natural movement and moments that happen on their own. Some images are more directed, others happen naturally — we'll see what works and build from there.
You Don't Have to Do It Alone
If having someone you trust there helps you feel more comfortable, you're welcome to bring a companion. They can simply be there for support or, if helpful, assist with small things during the session.
Nothing Is Set in Stone
We can start simply and see where the session takes us. If something doesn't feel right, we change it. If an idea works particularly well, we can spend more time with it.
The Word "Artistic" Is Doing Real Work
This isn't about following a formula or creating a particular kind of image. The focus is on mood, light, composition, and the person in front of the camera. The goal is to create images that feel confident, personal, and intentional — whether they're subtle and understated or more expressive.
The Most Common Reason People Book
More often than not, these sessions are something people do for themselves — to mark a milestone, explore a different side of themselves, or simply see themselves in a new way. That's the idea behind how the whole session is built: a private, personal experience where you remain in control of what you're comfortable creating.
